Fight for $15 Minimum Wage

Activists fighting for a $15 an hour minimum wage are offering carpool rides from the Valley to a rally in Boston on November 29. The minimum wage is now $10 an hour in Massachusetts, $9.60 in Vermont, and $7.25 in New Hampshire.

The Massachusetts minimum wage will be $11 starting January 1, 2017. Vermont's minimum wage will be $10 starting January 1, 2017 and $10.50 starting January 1, 2018. In New Hampshire, no increases are scheduled.

New York's minimum wage is different in different parts of the state. In the parts that border Massachusetts and Vermont, it will increase steadily until it reaches $12.50 an hour on December 31, 2020.

California's minimum wage, now $10, will increase by $1 per year, starting January 1, 2018, until it hits $15.

In Boston on November 29, fast food workers will go on strike at 6 a.m. At 11 a.m., workers at Logan airport will march for justice. At 1:30 p.m., there will be a rally at the statehouse for a $15 an hour minimum wage.

The Boston rally carpool is being organized by the western Massachusetts chapter of Jobs With Justice. The group has a web site at www.jwj.org. More information is at:
