The town of Vernon, Vermont borders Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Jim Pinkerton is a member of the Vernon select board. The select board is like a mayor and city council combined. In a voice phone interview in December 2025, Pinkerton told the Valley Post that he was working to save 18 acres of prime farmland from being covered in solar panels. “The solar panels should go above parking lots,” he said.

On May 5, 2026 an NPR program called "1A" that's heard on the radio in Brattleboro and nationally, produced a one-hour show whose point boiled down to: the federal government, and state governments, should make it easier for corporations to put thousands of solar panels on farmland, and cut down forests to put solar panels there too. Meanwhile, most roofs in the USA, including on big box stores like Walmart and warehouses like Amazon, do not have solar panels on them. The three “experts” on the NPR show said ground-mounted solar is best because it's cheaper than rooftop solar.

In 2022, the Boston Globe reported that the Brattleboro Reformer daily newspaper was owned by Paul Belogour. The November 28, 2025 edition of the Reformer said on page A5 that there is at least one other owner. The paper's publisher did not reply to a November 28 email asking who the other owner or owners are. The publisher, Jordan Brechenser, did not reply to a voicemail left during business hours on December 5.

Belogour also owns a company that helps people buy and sell crypto-currency, among other things.

Crypto-currency is "worse than a Ponzi" scheme, according to an article by three professors in relevant fields at reputable universities. The article is at:

Searching the New York Times web site for "Bitcoin" or "crypto" brings up similar information.

A 2025 Harvard study found that, "During the study period, the 34 Bitcoin (crypto-currency) mines consumed 33% more electricity than the city of Los Angeles, with the vast majority of this electricity coming from fossil fuels..."

The radio and TV news program “Democracy Now” is better than NPR News. Democracy Now can be heard anytime on its web site, and weekdays in Northampton on WXOJ, in Greenfield on WMCB, and in Brattleboro on WVEW.

That web page is owned by the same group that, on May 5, announced in a press release, it had “sued the Trump administration to block its unlawful attempt to open the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument to destructive commercial fishing. The monument is roughly 4,900 square miles, and its unique underwater geography supports a vibrant reservoir of ocean life.” It is 130 miles from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
