The town of Jamaica, Vermont is in the same county as Brattleboro. On April 19 in Jamaica, an on-duty state police officer severely injured Reika Fisher, age 18, and Kaori Shiya age 50.

The police officer “lost control of his cruiser while negotiating a right-hand curve on Route 100. (The officer's) cruiser traveled left of center and collided head-on with Christina Fisher’s Honda CRV,” according to a police press release.

The press release said the officer was “responding to a call for service” but did not say what the call was. It could have been a murder in-progress, or someone selling marijuana without a license. Christina Fisher's injuries were minor.

The Vermont ACLU web site says, “Vermont is over-policed.... Vermont drivers are subjected to a large and growing number of traffic stops – at a rate far above the national average. From 2015 to 2019, police in Vermont stopped motorists at nearly three times the national average – 255 drivers stopped per 1,000 residents, compared to 86 drivers per 1,000 residents nationally.”

According to an April 22 VTdigger news article, in Brattleboro, "Black drivers are stopped at double their share of the driving population. But the percentage of searches in which contraband is found for Black and Hispanic drivers statewide continues to be lower than for white drivers."
